Выполнение и оформление контрольных заданий

Контрольные работы включают в себя устные сообщения на определенные темы, задания по грамматике и задания по работе с текстами.

По устным темам необходимо подготовить пересказ. Задания по грамматике, перевод текста и задание к тексту выполняются письменно в отдельной тетради, аккуратно, четким почерком. При этом следует оставлять в тетради поля для замечаний, объяснений и методических указаний рецензента. Выполненное задание направляется для проверки в вуз в установленные сроки или сдается студентом лично в деканат.

Проверка письменно выполненного задания проводится преподавателем, который в зависимости от степени усвоения материала студентом делает заключение: "Допущен к собеседованию" или "На доработку".

Контрольная работа № 1 включает в себя:

1. Разговорная практика. Устные сообщения и беседа по темам "About Myself" и "My Working Day".

2. Грамматика: Местоимение. Формы личных и указательных местоимений, притяжательные и неопределенные местоимения. Формы глаголов to be и to have в функции сказуемого. Перевод предложений с оборотами there + be. Временные формы глаголов группы Simple (Indefinite), Continuous, Perfect в действительном залоге.

3. Работа с текстом. Чтение и перевод текста страноведческого содержания. Выполнение заданий к тексту.

Контрольная работа № 1

I. Устные сообщения и беседа по темам. Это задание является общим для всех вариантов контрольной работы.

Тема 1: About My Family and Myself

Задание 1. Запомните следующие слова и словосочетания:

Let me introduce myself. My name is Oleg Simonov. I was born on the 15 of October 1988 in Rostov-on-Don. I am 17 years old. This year I have finished school and entered Don State Technical University. Now I am a first-year student. I study at extra-mural department and take my courses by correspondence. In 5 years I shall be an engineer (a manager).

My appearance is ordinary. I am tall, my hair is short, my eyes are green. I go in for sports because it is my goal to have a good figure. I have a lot of interests such as sport, reading and computer. I finished training courses in computer and I think it will help me in my studies and in my work. I am fond of playing computer games. It is my hobby. I have a good collection of different computer games at home.

Now I want to tell you about my family. It is not large. I have got a mother, a father and a sister. My mother is a housewife. She is a kind woman. My mother is 44 but she looks much younger. My father is 46 years old and he is a production manager at the plant. He is a skilled specialist. My father has a good sense of humour. My sister Ann is 25. She is married and has a family of her own. Her husband is a doctor. They have 2 children.

We live in a 3-room flat with all modern conveniences: gas, electricity, hot and cold water, a telephone. Our flat is on the 2nd floor. It is in the center of the city. We have many relatives and friends. We are a friendly family and love each other very much.

I am a first-year student of Don State Technical University. I study at the correspondence department and work at the office.

I'd like to tell you about my working day. As a rule I get up at 7 o'clock in the morning, I wash myself, brush my hair and make my bed. Then I have breakfast. Usually my mother cooks breakfast for me but sometimes I make it myself.

After breakfast, at half past 8 I leave for work. The office where I work is far from my house and it takes me about half an hour to get there by bus.

My working day starts at 9 o'clock in the morning and is over at 6 p.m. I have a break for dinner from 1 till 2 p.m. Usually I have dinner at the cafe. Sometimes I have a snack at the office. During my working day I look through the correspondence, receive and send e-mail messages and faxes, speak over the phone with business partners and perform other important tasks.

I come home at about 7 o'clock in the evening. Eight o'clock is supper time in our family. We all get together in the kitchen, then go to the living room and watch TV, read books or just talk. At about 11 o'clock I go to bed.

The History of English

It is only during the last hundred years that English has become one of the world important languages. In Shakespeare time English as well as Russian was a "provincial" language, a language of secondary importance. People spoke mostly French, Italian, German and some other languages.

Today English has become one of the world most important languages in politics and economy, science and technology, trade, tourism and cultural relations. A lot of articles about different scientific discoveries and achievements is published in English. Great deal of information for computers ( over 80 % ) is written in English. It is also the workable language of most international congresses and conferences, symposiums and seminars.

In number of speakers English is second only to Chinese. It is the native language for more than 400 mln people from 12 countries. English is the official language of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the United States of America, Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand and several states of South Africa.

All English-speaking nations have one common language, English, but it is not the same with all of them. Languages are always changing and English is no exception. National features, historic and cultural changes of different countries brought changes into the language too. In some countries old English words got new meanings while in others new terms were needed because there appeared new and un-English things. In addition, a lot of new words was borrowed from other languages: Indian, Eskimo, Gaelic and others, to say nothing of Danish, French, German, Latin, Greek, Italian and Spanish.

Nowadays there exist several variants of English on the Globe: British, American, Canadian, Australian, Irish, etc. There are numerous differences between them in pronunciation, grammatical constructions and intonation. Among all variants of English today two ones occupy special places: British English ( as the standard literary language ) and American English ( due to the USA great influence in the world).
